What initially drew me to therapy was the opportunity to experience the depth and intricacy of human beings while encountering the innate, undeniable capacity of people to heal, grow and experience meaning in their lives. I feel humbled each time I am invited into my clients’ experience. I consider it an honour to witness the changes they experience in their lives and encounter the resiliency of the human spirit.
I strive to provide a space that allows each person I work with to feel safe and empowered while allowing for exploration, questioning, creativity, courage, movement, and hope. Our stories deserve to be heard with compassion and respect and without judgement or assumptions. We all deserve a space where we are seen for our efforts, intentions, and abilities; where we are seen for where we have been, what we have come through, where we are now, and where we desire to go.
I see people with a holistic lens to make space for the intricacies in each person’s story. Factors that facilitate change can vary depending on the individual and situation. Therefore, part of the therapeutic process is to understand and be informed by what those unique aspects are for the person to move past barriers to feeling whole and live a life that is aligned with who they are. My aim is to collaborate with clients and offer a person-centred and tailored approach that is informed by their story, needs, barriers, strengths, and hopes. I desire to compliment and build off each client’s own inner sense of what is needed for change while shedding light on opportunities for choice, insight, voice, and change. I draw upon theories and approaches such as narrative, experiential, attachment, and art while making use of existential and relational themes to facilitate exploration, processing, and developing new ways to relate to the world, themselves, and their struggles. I also utilize cognitive and behavioural approaches as well as mindfulness and grounding techniques to aid in easing symptoms. At times, I believe our pain or sense that something is ‘off’ can be a teacher and a source of insight into what we need in order to feel a sense of wellness, as well as to identify conditions or circumstances that hinder our well-being and ability to live the life we desire. Whenever possible, I work with people to help reduce suffering and lighten burdens; in some circumstances when alleviation of pain isn’t possible, I aim to empower and support people so they are able to ‘suffer well’. I believe moving towards feeling whole, personal formation, and experiencing and deepening one’s capacity for joy and meaning are often possible, often even in the midst of pain.
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Honours Psychology with a certificate in Human Services as well as a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University in 2011. In addition to working alongside clients in private practice and select agencies, I teach a variety of university psychology related courses and train and supervise Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology students in their clinical training.
I offer 50 minute sessions for a rate of $115.00 (tax included.) In some circumstances 75 minute sessions are available for a rate of $170.00. Session fees will be due at each session and are payable by cash, cheque (payable to Amy Glazema), e-transfer (e-transfers to be received prior to the start of session), or credit. Some insurance providers will reimburse for part or all of your counselling services fees from a therapist registered as a CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellor). If you wish to use your benefits, please enquire with your provider prior to our initial meeting to ensure my qualifications (MA, CCC) meet your provider’s requirements.
