I grew up knowing that living in community was important. My parents were strong social justice advocates and wanted to provide a safe place for people who were struggling to feel safe and seen. In our home in East Vancouver, we had various people from all walks of life living in our home. They were often marginalized, sometimes seen as outcasts, and in need of shelter and support. These people became part of our family and through learning their stories I realized that most struggles don’t start as adults. It was during this time that I decided to become a social worker and a play therapist so that I could support children and their families through their healing journey, providing them with that sense of community and belonging that we all long for and need.
I began my educational journey at UBC in the social work program. I worked as a Registered Social Worker with children and families in Aboriginal Child and Family Services, Hospital and Non-profit settings for over 10 years. But I never felt truly at home until I found play therapy.
Play therapy allows me to support children in an authentic and meaningful way. Through play children are able to communicate their struggles and express their feelings in a way that feels natural and safe. I want your child to know that when they come into the playroom they can show up just the way they are no matter how messy. That despite whatever challenges they might be going through they won’t be judged or asked to leave. My goal is to create a space where your child feels safe, seen and cared for because it is only in this feeling of safety that children will be able to connect to themselves and learn new ways of navigating the world.
I believe children are our most precious resource and with support and guidance they can thrive.
In addition to my personal experiences, I believe my education and previous work experience have provided me with the tools I need to support you and your family. My qualifications include: Bachelor of Social Work, Certificate in Aboriginal Focusing Oriented Therapy, Certified Synergetic Play Therapist and Supervisor, Certified AutPlay Therapist, Certification in Complex Trauma and Child Sexual Abuse Interventions. I am also a 500hr certified Yoga Teacher and enjoy incorporating my teachings from Yoga into my therapy sessions.
