B.Tammy Bartel Bio Pic

MA, RCC, CT

I am a therapist, thanatologist, researcher, writer, and speaker. I am passionate about helping people through life's ups and downs, and in particular, in walking alongside of and providing a safe place for processing the difficulties that one faces in living life. I consider it a privilege to be in a profession where I help to facilitate change and where I get to see lives transformed on a daily basis.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a variety of specialized training. I have my Masters in Counselling Psychology and I am working on a clinical degree in Existential Analytical psychotherapy. I have training in Satir Individual and Family Systems counselling, Gottman Couple’s Therapy, Bringing Baby Home certification, Somatic Psychotherapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Meaning-Centred Grief Therapy, OEI, and EMDR. I also have my certification in Thanatology (grief and loss) and have spent the past decade researching family bereavement and relational grieving.

When I set out to become a counsellor, I knew right away that I wanted to work with the bereaved, as my own personal loss experience was the reason I went back to school. I am drawn to work with families, as I know first hand what the loss of a family member can do to family relationships. I also find that once I get to know my clients, there seems to always be a hidden loss (death or non-death) in the past that was never processed. My heart is to provide a safe space for my clients to begin to take a closer look at some of those hard areas of life. And to provide a place where clients can bear to tell their stories and thereby integrate their experiences into their lives in a new way.

I am a therapist informed by grief and loss, who works through an existential-analytical lens for individual therapy, taking into account the family system and social network of each client which play a crucial role in how one lives life. I integrate tools from my specialized trainings to collaborate with each client’s unique needs to come up with an individual plan of action. I would be honoured to walk alongside of you in your journey, wherever you may be on your path to healing and transformation.

In addition to my clinical practice, I am involved in ongoing research, I facilitate workshops and trainings, and I have numerous publications which I present on all over the world.
