PhD, CCC

I cherish building relationships that create unique opportunities for personal reflection, growth, and meaningful change. I admire the courage of those seeking help and I firmly believe that healing begins with a strong, supportive relationship and a focus on nurturing inherent strengths. I am committed to walking alongside those who are suffering, offering a compassionate listening ear, and accompanying them on their journey toward healing. I believe in helping individuals build readiness for change and facilitating the change process in ways that honour their life goals and priorities.

With a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and over 15 years of clinical counselling experience, I work from an integrative framework, drawing on Brief Solution-Focused approaches and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while maintaining a Person-Centred philosophy. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

An area of counselling that I have specialized in over the years is career counselling, bringing many years of expertise, training, and experience to help individuals navigate career transitions and overcome professional challenges. With extensive training in career development and career assessments, I work with clients to identify their personal qualities, interests, and potential career paths, providing them with the clarity and direction needed for their professional growth. Additionally, I offer support for those facing retirement transitions, helping individuals redefine their sense of purpose, explore new opportunities, and adapt to the emotional and practical changes that come with this significant life shift.

My work also focuses on helping clients struggling with mood (such as depression, persistent sadness, or emotional numbness), anxiety (including overwhelming worry, panic attacks, or social anxiety), career concerns (such as job dissatisfaction, career transitions, or feeling stuck in a profession that no longer aligns with their purpose), or relationship difficulties (like communication breakdowns, trust issues, or navigating complex family dynamics). Additionally, I help clients cope with grief and loss (whether due to the passing of a loved one, major life changes, or unresolved sorrow), chronic pain (emotional or physical, that affects their quality of life), and intergenerational conflicts (such as cultural or value clashes between generations within families).

I use strengths-based approaches that empower individuals to draw upon their own resources. I believe change happens in the context of a caring relationship where personal agency is celebrated and fostered. I work collaboratively with clients to set goals and develop strategies based on their readiness and needs. By offering empathy and respect, I aim to create a non-judgmental safe space where clients can explore their challenges and move toward growth. I also value providing practical tools, strategies, and ongoing support that clients can use beyond our sessions to maintain lasting well-being and resilience.

For those seeking faith-based counselling, I offer faith-integrated counselling to support their personal growth by incorporating their spiritual beliefs and values into the therapeutic process. By integrating counselling principles with religious or spiritual frameworks, clients are empowered to align their personal growth with their deeply held beliefs, find meaning in their experiences, and develop coping strategies that resonate with their faith.

I embrace a culturally responsive approach to counselling and offer services in English, Hindi, and Malayalam, allowing clients to receive support in the language they are most comfortable with. Alongside my counselling services, I pursue research in counselling, career development, and life transitions to advance the field and inform my practice. Over the past two decades, I have had the honour of teaching psychology and counselling, engaging with diverse client groups in India and Canada. I am presently an Associate Professor in Counselling Psychology at Trinity Western University.
