What is Neurofeedback you might ask.
It is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time monitoring of brain activity to help individuals learn how to self-regulate their brain functions. The process typically involves placing electrodes on the scalp to measure electrical activity in the brain, often using an electroencephalogram (EEG).
Neurofeedback is used for various purposes, including:
ADHD: To improve attention and reduce impulsivity.
Anxiety and Depression: To help manage symptoms
Sleep Disorders: To promote better sleep quality.
Trauma Recovery: To assist in healing from PTSD
How
Monitoring: The brain's electrical activity is monitored, and data is processed to provide feedback.
Feedback Loop: This information is translated into visual or auditory signals, often displayed in a way that makes it easy for the person to understand how their brain is functioning
Training: The individual then practices specific mental exercises or relaxation techniques while observing the feedback. Over time, they can learn to modify their brain activity, often aiming to increase desirable states (like focus) and decrease undesirable states (like anxiety).
Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive approach that doesn't involve medication. It can be tailored to your specific needs, whether you're looking to improve focus, reduce anxiety, or enhance emotional regulation.
This new therapy empowers you to take an active role in managing your mental health. By learning to regulate your brain activity, you can develop skills that contribute to long-term well-being.
