Signs of Postpartum Anxiety

Postpartum anxiety can feel overwhelming and all encompassing. You are not alone. There are many women who struggle with anxiety AND are great Mothers. If you are struggling with anxiety, the first step is asking for help.

The following is a list of SOME of the physical and mental symptoms you may experience:

  • Having a million fearful thoughts all at once
  • Feeling panicky if you cannot check on your baby
  • Triggers the rest of stressors in life
  • Physical symptoms – weak, shaky, nauseated, heart palpitations
  • Second guess everything
  • Analyze things to death
  • Catastrophize or expect the worst
  • Insomnia
  • Hate making decisions
  • Regret often
  • Tense
  • Difficulty relaxing
  • Difficulty regulating emotions, including over or under reacting to situations in daily life

(Please note that post-partum anxiety is not currently considered a clinically diagnosed mood disorder. It is not diagnosed as a permanent state of being and is believed to resolve itself with family support and support under the care of an understanding medical professional. Counselling can also be beneficial.)
