Postpartum depression can feel like your world is so overwhelming that you just cannot do it anymore. You feel disconnected from yourself and your child and are convinced that nothing will ever change. You are NOT alone. Life will change, and you will find joy and hope again.
The following is a list of SOME of the physical and mental symptoms you may experience:
- Difficulty Sleeping, insomnia or exhaustion
- Lack of energy
- Low sex drive
- Lack of connection – with baby and others
- Changes in appetite, weight loss/gain
- Weepiness, excessive worry
- Feelings of inadequacy, hopelessness, despair
- Guilt, sadness, fear of being alone
- Irritability
- Difficulty concentrating
- Panic
- Scary thought about the baby or being overly concerned about the baby’s health

(Please note that post-partum depression is not currently identified as a clinical mood disorder. It is not diagnosed as a permanent state of being and is believed to resolve itself with family support and support under the care of an understanding medical professional. Counselling can also be beneficial.)
