In my attempt to connect with friends far and wide with the social medium of the day, facebook, I came across a fantastic video created by a colleague of mine describing the work of sand tray in therapy (see link below). This video is perhaps directed more toward clinicians, however I believe it also has benefits for clients interested in expressive therapies. Sand tray (sometimes other materials are used like rice or wheat) is a powerful tool used to express dynamics – in the video Bart Begalka shows an example of family dynamics re-created in the tray but this modality is also conducive to inner world dynamics, and other relationship dynamics (workplace, friendships, etc.). If this form of therapy interests you, consider seeking out a therapist who integrates this tool into their work.
